Stevens Point, Wis. (Nov. 19, 2022) - Traveling north across state lines to take on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon, the North Central College women's basketball team found themselves on the wrong end of an 83-51 game, played at Berg Gymnasium.
Allison Pearson opened the game with a three-pointer, off of an assist from Natalie Stavropoulos. The Pointers followed that up with a 10-0 run, stopped by a field goal from Pearson. Putting the Cardinals in double-digits was another Pearson three pointer with 3:05 left in the opening quarter.
UW-Stevens Point went on a 17-0 run as a Megan McClure layup ended the Pointers run, to put the score at 31-14 in the second quarter. After Stavropoulos knocked down a pair of free throws, UW-Stevens Point closed the first half on a 10-0 run to hold a 45-18 lead.
A layup from Stavropoulos sparked a 9-0 run for the Cardinals, capped off when Grace Kieffer connected on a deep ball to make the score 52-29. The teams traded baskets until the Pointers scored six points in a row on their way to a 65-36 lead after 30 minutes of play. North Central scored the final eight points of the game but ultimately UW-Stevens Point won 83-51.
Pearson led the Cardinals in scoring with 17 points as Stavropoulos posted 11 points, seven assists and four rebounds. On the day, North Central shot 31%. Jamie Pfeifer tallied 14 points to pace the Pointers.
North Central returns home on Tuesday night as they welcome Benedictine University to Gregory Arena. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
