Nov. 8, 2022 - In the first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) women's wrestling season, Yele Aycock of the North Central College women's wrestling team claimed the first ever Student-Athlete of the Week award, the conference announced Tuesday. 

Aycock, a Sophomore from Gallup, N.M, received the honor after a perfect 5-0 record this week. In their dual meet against Aurora, Aycock (136-pounds) pinned Natasha Markoutsis to help the top-ranked Cardinals soar past the Spartans 49-0. Saturday, Aycock claimed the 136-pound title at the Pointer Open as she picked up two wins by pin, a 15-2 technical fall win and a 2-1 decision win over the No. 1 ranked wrestler, Nina Makem of Augsburg University.

Aycock and the No. 1 ranked Cardinals are back in action Saturday as they travel to Adrian, Mich. to compete in the Adrian College Duals. The Cardinals will face No. 4 McKendree University, No. 7 Tiffin University, No. 13 Sacred Heart University and Indiana Tech. The start times for the duals are TBA.
