Dec. 13, 2022 - After earning National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Regional and National Wrestler of the Month, Yelena Makoyed of the North Central College women's wrestling was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Wrestler of the Week. 

Makoyed, a Senior from Orangevale, Calif, represented Team USA at the World Cup in Coralville, Iowa this past weekend. Makoyed squared off with Yasemin Adar from Turkey who is currently ranked No. 2 at 76 kg in the United World Wrestling (UWW) rankings. After trailing 4-1 early in the match, Makoyed took a 7-4 lead before pinning the two-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medalist to secure the win for Team USA. Makoyed is currently ranked No. 15 in the UWW rankings. 

Makoyed and the second-ranked Cardinals travel to Rock Island, Ill. where they will face the Vikings of Augustana College on Dec. 15. The first whistle is set for 6 pm inside the Carver Center.
