ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Dec. 15, 2022) - Traveling to Rock Island to clash with Augustana College, the second-ranked North Central College women's wrestling team stormed into the Carver Center and sunk the Vikings 45-0 to extend their winning streak to eleven.
The Cardinals (11-0) kicked off the dual with a 15-0 lead after
Amber Turner (101),
Elizah Leonard (109) and No. 8
Amaya Yoshizumi (116) all won their matches by forfeit. In the first true match, No. 6
Amani Jones added four points to the Cardinal lead as she defeated Hannah Suboni-Kaufman by a 10-0 technical fall in the 123-pound bout.
In the 130-pound match,
Sara Sterner put the Cardinals up by 23 as she picked up the Cardinals second technical fall of the night, defeating Syndey Tajowski 10-0.
Sydney Park took on Alicia Felkner in the 136-pound match and would defeat Felkner by a 10-0 technical fall to put the Cardinals up 27-0 with four matches remaining.
The second-ranked wrestler,
Yele Aycock, squared off against Kara Rohlf in the 143-pound weight class. Aycock would keep the technical fall streak alive as she defeated Rohlf 10-0. The fourth-ranked wrestler in 143-pounds,
Kendall Bostelman, picked up the fifth and final technical fall of the night as she defeated Abbey Ellis 10-0 in the 155-pound bout to give the Cardinals a 35-0 lead.
Tiera Jimerson would pin Sawyer Graham in the 170-pound match before
Alondra Aguayo would cap off an impressive dual as she pinned Angie Guy to give the Cardinals a 45-0 win over the Vikings.
In the extra matches,
Dakota Drew (123) picked up two technical fall wins over Suboni-Kaufman and Tajkowski while
Charlene Bahnfleth (130) pinned Alicia Fleker and Park (136) defeated Rohlf by a 10-0 technical fall. Jimerson defeated Ellis by a 10-0 technical fall to end the night.
The second-ranked Cardinals are back in action on Friday, Dec. 30 as they travel to Hoffman Estates, Ill. to compete in the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships. The first whistle is set for 11 am inside the NOW Arena.
