Dec. 12, 2022 - For the second time in her career,
Yelena Makoyed of the North Central College women's wrestling team was named National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Wrestler of the Month following an undefeated start to her senior season.
Makoyed was honored as the Regional Wrestler of the Month for the third time in her career on Dec. 6. This is Makoyed's second National honor as she was named Co-National Wrestler of the Month on Feb. 23, 2022.
Makoyed, the No. 1-ranked wrestler in 170-pounds and No. 2-ranked pound-for-pound wrestler, has been dominant this season for the Cardinals. She has posted a perfect 15-0 record while winning all of her matches this season in the first period. Makoyed has not allowed a point so far this season. Makoyed has defeated eight of her opponents by technical fall while pinning six opponents. Makoyed has six wins over ranked opponents this season with her last win over No. 5 Ashley Lekas of Augsburg University on Dec. 5.
Makoyed and the second-ranked Cardinals head to Rock Island, Ill. for a battle with the Vikings of Augustana College. The first whistle is set for 6 pm inside the Carver Center.
