Feb. 18, 2022 - For the second time this season, North Central College women's wrestler,
Yelena Makoyed, was honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) as the Northwest Region Wrestler of the month.
Makoyed, a Junior from Orangevale, Calif, has posted a 20-1 record this season and was undefeated in February, posting five wins including four pins. At the Grand View Open, Makoyed took home first place in the 170-pound weight class, defeating all five of her opponents. Makoyed took down Annabelle Helm of Gannon University by a 10-0 technical fall then pinned the No. 5 ranked wrestler, Jade Herzer of University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the championship match.
Makoyed and the Cardinals are back in action on Sunday as they travel to Stevens Point, Wis. to compete in the NCWWC Northwest Region Championships. The matches are set to start at 10:00 am inside the Multi-Activity Center.
