Feb. 23, 2022 - After receiving National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Northwest Region Wrestler of the Month last week, North Central College women's wrestler Yelena Makoyed was named NWCA Co-National Wrestler of the Month yesterday afternoon. 

Makoyed, a Junior from Orangevale, Calif, posted a perfect 5-0 record in February and took home the 170-pound title at the Grand View University Open on Feb. 5. Makoyed tallied four pins at that Grand View Open while defeating Annabelle Helm of Gannon by a 10-0 technical fall and pinning Jade Herzer, No. 5 ranked wrestler in 170-pound, in the championship match. 

Makoyed has posted a 23-1 record this season while being ranked No. 2 in the 170-pound weight class. Makoyed claimed the 170-pound Regional title last week at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) Northwest Regionals and looks to defend her title at the National Tournament next weekend at Adrian College. 

Makoyed and the Cardinals are back in action on Mar. 4 and as they travel to Adrian, Mich. to compete in the NCWWC National Championships inside the Merillat Center.
