PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (March 12, 2022) - Facing their second straight top 10 opponent, the North Central College baseball team fell 5-0 to the hands of Webster University on Saturday afternoon at Centennial Park Fields.
Webster was on the board first as they used two walks followed by an RBI single to go ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
Each team went three-up, three-down in the third inning of play as Ryan Behling made his second start of the season for the Cardinals.
The Gorlocks added two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, extending their lead to 3-0. In the top of the fifth, Jared Wojcik singled and moved to second base on a Brad Novak single. The Cardinals could not capitalize as Webster worked out of the jam to keep North Central scoreless
After another three-up, three-down inning from Behling, Paul Beverly and Wojcik singled pushing Beverly to third base. Again, the Cardinals could not take advantage and remain down 3-0.
North Central could not push a run across the rest of the game while Webster tacked on two runs in the eighth inning.
Wojcik led the Cardinals with two hits as North Central posted five hits and left seven on base as a team. Behling moves to 1-1 on the season with his seven innings pitched, four hits, three earned runs, and five strikeouts. Nolan Shannon entered in the eighth inning and struck out one batter and had two unearned runs cross the plate in the inning.
