NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 24, 2022) - Scoring the first 11 runs of the game, the North Central College baseball team tallied 17 hits in their seven-inning rout of Carroll University on Sunday afternoon with a 13-2 victory.
Dom Listi tripled in the bottom of the first inning and scored on the next at bat as Rob Marinec doubled down the left field line to put the Cardinals ahead, 1-0.
After a 1-2-3 inning from Luke Lamm in the top of the second, North Central quickly loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning. Michael Patterson scored Trey Roach before Michael Davis scored on a wild pitch. Marinec drove in two more runs on a single up the middle to plate Luke Lehnen and Patterson. With Listi on second base, Jared Wojcik singled as Listi came around to score. To finish off the seven-run inning, Davis singled to right field to score Marinec as the Cardinals took an 8-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Beverly doubled to left center to lead off the half inning. The very next batter, Wojcik hit an RBI single to score Beverly and give North Central a 9-0 advantage.
With Wojcik on third and Petty on first, Davis doubled to right field and scored Wojcik. Jimmy Patock hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Petty and put the Cardinals up 10-0. The Pioneers scored two runs in the top half of the seventh to keep the game going.
The Cardinals quickly answered as Listi singled to right field followed up by Marinec's seventh home run of the season to give North Central a 10-run lead and end the game with a 13-2 victory. Lamm improved to 6-2 on the season with six scoreless innings. Seniors Jake Salzbrunn, Nicholas Rietz, and Robert Deischer all saw action in the top of the seventh inning.
Marinec drove in a game-high five runs on his four hits while Davis posted three RBIs. Both Marinec and Davis extended their hitting streaks as Marinec has gotten a hit in 15 straight games while Davis is at 13. With Listi's triple in the first inning, he is now the program leader in career triples with 15. He has also reached base safely in each of the last 22 games.
North Central travels down Chicago Ave on Tuesday to take on Benedictine University. The game is set to begin at 6 PM at Benedictine Baseball Field.
