Men’s Tennis Rolls Past Carroll 9-0 on Senior Day

AURORA, Ill. (Apr. 24, 2022) - Closing out their regular season on Sunday morning, the North Central College men's tennis team made quick work of a short-handed Carroll University team as they cruised to a 9-0 sweep of the Pioneers on senior day.

Teaming up for the first time this season, Andy Hinch and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles before Matthew Sengphommachanh and Daniel Urraca Mozos downed Ben Pierson and Jack McCaffrey 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles spot. Brian Gambuzza and Douglas Blomquist won by forfeit as Carroll only had four players.

In singles action, Hinch picked up the first win for the Cardinals at No. 4 while Morgan Red won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Javier Suarez Balsera each picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at their respective positions. Urraca Mozos and Blomquist secured the win by forfeits at the No. 5/6 positions as well to finish the 9-0 sweep for North Central as they improve to 21-2 on the season and win their 11th straight CCIW match.

The Cardinals enter postseason play having won 14 matches in a row and are the No. 1 seed in the CCIW Championships beginning on May 5th. Their first-round opponent is yet to be determined.
