CHICAGO, Ill. (Apr. 27, 2022) - The North Central College women's lacrosse team saw their 2022 season come to an end Wednesday, as the Cardinals fell to No. 20 University of Chicago 23-2 inside Stagg Field.
The Cardinals (4-12, 2-4 CCIW) found themselves down early in the contest as the Maroons (15-1, 6-0 CCIW) scored the opening goal 30 seconds into the game. The Maroons kept the momentum going as they went on a nine goal run to end the first quarter, putting the Cardinals down 10-0 heading into the second quarter. Abbey Triebe got the Cardinals on the board just a minute into the quarter cutting the lead to nine. However, the Maroons took control of the game and were able to control possession for the rest of the game, going on a 12 goal run. Abby MacKenzie would score on a free position shot with just under three minutes to play, to bring the score to 22-2.
Hannah Park, Ellie Yonak and Mary Pinkowski each caused one turnover while Pinkowksi picked up a team high four ground balls. Abigail Widd tallied 15 saves, extending her career record to 347 saves.
Evelina Swigart was Chicago's leading scorer with four goals and Jane Chen distributed three assists.
North Central finishes the season with an overall record of 4-12 and a 2-4 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) record.
