Apr. 29, 2022 - The North Central College men's lacrosse team punched their ticket to the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament as they took down the Transylvania University Pioneers 14-8 inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The Cardinals saw Senior
Scott Allgood surpass 100 career points while celebrating their four seniors.
The Cardinals (7-7, 3-3 CCIW) found themselves down early as the Pioneer's (9-5, 2-3 CCIW) scored just 30 seconds into the contest. The Cardinals would bounce back as Jack Moran tied the game up at one with just under 12 minutes to play which started a four goal run to end the first quarter. In the second quarter, Tom Eberhardt would score off an assist from Allgood to put the Cardinals up by four. This assist was Allgood's 100th career point, he is the fifth Cardinal in program history to reach this milestone. The Pioneer's would rattled off two quick goals to cut the Cardinal lead to two with just under eight minutes to play. Rylan McQueary would end the Pioneer's run off an assist from Moran before Nick Rubino would tally another goal to put the Cardinals up 7-3 heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Cardinals would come out firing on all cylinders as Moran started a four goal run to put the Cardinals up 11-3 with 3:37 left in the third quarter. AJ Teague would score the final goal of the quarter, cutting the Cardinals lead to seven heading into the final quarter of play. The Pioneers would strike first in the fourth quarter but Allgood would tally his third goal of the game to put the Cardinals up 12-5 with 10:46 left to play. After another Pioneers goal, Eberhardt would score off an assist from Moran putting the Cardinals up 13-6. The Pioneers would tally two quick goals late in the fourth quarter but Allgood would put the game away with four minutes to play, giving the Cardinals a 14-8 win on senior night.
Allgood led the team with four goals while Rubino, Rylan McQueary, Moran, Eberhardt and Luke Illgen each had two goals. Moran led the team with three assists. Rubino and Dylan Andersen each had five ground balls while Aidan Murphy tallied 16 saves in the contest.
Following the contest, the Cardinals highlighted their four seniors, Allgood,
Steven Dale,
Samuel Stevenson and
Shane Todd for their hard work and dedication over the last four years. They also highlighted Graduate Assistant,
Erick Krall for his three years of service to the program.
With this win the Cardinals have locked up a spot in the CCIW tournament for the second straight season. The CCIW Semifinals is set for Friday, May 6, the Cardinals will find out who they will face after tomorrow's CCIW contests.
