Apr. 9, 2022 - Playing in Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium for the first time since Mar. 22, the North Central College men's lacrosse team came up short against the Vikings of Augustana College, losing 7-6 on a chilly afternoon in Naperville, Ill.

The Vikings (8-3, 1-1 CCIW) got the upper hand early as they scored just two minutes into the game but Nick Rubino would tally two goals for the Cardinals giving them a 2-1 lead heading into the second quarter. The second quarter was very slow as the Vikings scored the only two goals of the quarter, putting the Cardinals down 3-2 heading into halftime.

The third quarter would start in the Cardinals favor as Tom Eberhardt tallied an early goal off the assist from Jack Moran, tying the contest up at three. However, the Vikings would steal all the momentum back as Sam Shaver tallied two goals putting the Vikings up by two. The third quarter would stay at a 5-3 Viking lead but the Cardinals would answer quickly in the fourth quarter. After a Vikings penalty, Moran would score off an assist from Scott Allgood then Allgood would tie the game up at five off an assist from Moran with just 11 minutes to play. The Vikings would strike again, scoring two unanswered goals, reclaiming a two goal lead before Eberhardt would cut the lead to one with just under seven minutes to play. The Cardinals looked like they were going to send the game to overtime as Eberhardt had a clear shot in front of the net but the shot went wide, giving the Vikings a 7-6 win.

Rubino and Eberhardt led the team with two goals each while Moran and Allgood had a goal and two assists. Rutger Rawlings tallied four caused turnovers and picked up a ground ball while Jack MacLeod tallied three saves in net.

The Cardinals (4-6, 0-2 CCIW) take a trip up north to Waukesha, Wis. to take on the Pioneers of Carroll University on Wednesday, Apr. 13. The opening face-off is set for 7 pm inside Schneider Stadium.
