NAPERVILLE, Ill. (May 11, 2022) - Playing in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament opener, the North Central College baseball team suffered a 7-1 loss to North Park University on Wednesday afternoon at Zimmerman Stadium.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first four innings of play as starters Luke Lamm and Logan Peters settled in quickly for their respective teams. In the bottom of the fourth, Justin Rios singled, Trey Roach was hit by a pitch and Brent Swenson walked to load the bases but the Cardinals were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
In the top half of the fifth inning, North Park scored their first two runs of the game on two errors from North Central. After an RBI single from Justin Swanson, Peters hit a three-run home run as the Vikings took a commanding 6-0 lead.
Robert Deischer threw a hitless sixth before North Park tacked on another run on a Cardinal error. Paul Beverly walked in the bottom of the eighth and came around to score on a wild pitch to plate North Central's first run of the contest.
The Vikings closed out the ninth to capture a 7-1 victory over North Central. Peters picked up the win while Lamm suffered the loss. Lamm threw 4.2 innings, allowing no earned runs, just three hits, and recorded two strikeouts. Rios posted a game-high two hits on the day for the Cardinal offense.
North Central faces Carroll University at 12 PM tomorrow in an elimination game on day two of the CCIW Tournament at Zimmerman Stadium. You can find the full tournament schedule HERE.
