Box Score
May 4, 2022 - Taking command with a productive first inning and never relenting, the North Central College baseball team improved to 12-1 at home Wednesday with an 11-0 shutout of the University of Dubuque Spartans at Zimmerman Stadium.
The Cardinals (29-8) plated four runs in the first inning, which was enough to keep the hosts ahead for good as North Central starting pitcher
Luke Lamm put the clamps on Dubuque (19-18) for seven innings. Lamm scattered four hits and struck out seven while walking just one, improving to 7-2 this season with the win. Lamm now has 24 career victories with the Cardinals, one short of the current record of 25 currently held by teammate
Charlie Klemm.
North Central needed only two batters to establish its lead, as
Luke Lehnen led off the first inning with a single before scoring on a double by
Dom Listi. A sacrifice fly by
Rob Marinec and RBI singles from
Justin Rios and
Brent Swenson stretched the hosts' advantage. The Cardinals put up three more runs in the fourth, as a run-scoring single by Marinec preceded a sacrifice fly by
Jared Wojcik and a run-scoring single by
Trey Roach.
Marinec returned to the plate in the fifth and launched a two-run home run over the left-center field fence. Marinec now has eight home runs this season and 34 in his collegiate career. A sacrifice fly by Roach and an RBI single by Rios concluded the scoring in the eighth.
Listi finished the evening 3 for 4 at the plate with three runs scored, while Marinec went 2 for 4 with four RBI and Rios was 2 for 3 with two walks.
Robert Deischer and
CJ Jensik each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the contest.
The Cardinals return to College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) competition Friday, hosting Illinois Wesleyan University at 3:00 p.m.
