Sept. 14, 2022 - The North Central College men's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to six games as they took down the Lake Forest College Foresters 1-0 Wednesday night inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

The Cardinals (4-0-2) looked to gain some momentum on the offensive end of the field early in the game and in the fifth minute, Eloi Nyibizi slipped away from the defense and put a shot on net but it was swallowed up by goalkeeper Giuseppe Scalera. The Cardinals kept finding holes in the Foresters defense and in the 16th minute Jaziel Enriquez had an opportunity but his shot was handled by Scalera. The Foresters offense found an opening in the Cardinal defense as Johnny Presberg put a shot on net but Sid Marquardt handled his shot with ease, cutting down the Foresters opportunity. After a Foresters turnover, Nyibizi flew past the entire Forester defense and put a shot past Scalera to give the Cardinals a one goal lead in the 24th minute. The Cardinals would keep the pressure on the Foresters as Jack Fairwood and Enriquez would send two shots on net but both were saved by Scalera. The first half would end on a Marquardt save and the Cardinals would head into the break with a one goal lead.

The Cardinals were looking to extend their lead in the second half and in the 52nd minute, Teddy Kolesnikov would take down Edoardo Bonifacio in the penalty box, awarding the Cardinals with a penalty kick. Johnny Kraemer would step up and look to notch his second penalty kick of the season but Scalera would make a diving save to keep the Cardinal lead at one. Both offenses couldn't find any opportunities late in the game and the Cardinals would take down the Foresters 1-0.

Marquardt tallied two saves as his record improved to 4-0-1 on the season. He picked up his third shutout of the season and 15th of his career. The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday as they host the 24th ranked Wartburg College Knights. The action is set to start at 3 pm inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
