United Soccer Coaches' Region VIII Rankings
Sept. 20, 2022 - After going undefeated last week and extending their unbeaten streak to eight games, the North Central College men's soccer team was ranked fourth in the United Soccer Coaches' Region VIII Rankings on the same day that
Daniel Navarro was selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week.
The United Soccer Coaches' announced their second Regional Rankings of the season and the Cardinals moved up one spot to fourth after an impressive week of action. The top three spots remained the same as the new No. 1 team in the country, the University of Chicago Maroons claimed the top spot followed by No. 5 North Park University in second and No. 10 Calvin University in third. Following the Cardinals in fifth is Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), Dominican University in sixth, Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) in seventh and Webster University claiming the final spot. The Cardinals also received votes in the first D3soccer.com Top 25 of the season.
Navarro, a Freshman from Niles, Ill., was a part of the Cardinals backline that earned two shutouts this week, shutting down the No. 24 Wartburg College Knights 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinal defense only allowed one goal this weekend on a penalty kick in their 3-1 win over the University of Dubuque on Sunday afternoon. This is the second CCIW Player of the Week award that the Cardinals have received as Sid Marquardt was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24 as they open up CCIW play with a trip to Elmhurst University. The action is set to start at 7:30 pm inside Langhorst Field.
