Jan. 10, 2023 - Following a week with three pins and a win over the No. 1-ranked wrestler, Jaslynn Gallegos of the North Central College women's wrestling team was honored as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. 

Gallegos, a Junior from Brighton, Colo., posted a 3-0 record while winning all of her matches via pin at the the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals to help the Cardinals secure a second place finish. In the Cardinals' dual against No. 14 Sacred Heart, Gallegos pinned Nohea Moniz in the first period to help the Cardinals take down SHU 38-7. In the semifinals, Gallegos helped the Cardinals defeat third-ranked Colorado Mesa University as she picked up another first period win by pinning Carisa Epling. Gallegos squared off with No. 1 Samara Chavez of King in the Championship dual. The last time these two met, Chavez defeated Gallegos to claim the No. 1 ranking as well as the 116-pound title at the North Central College Open. Gallegos got her revenge and pinned Chavez in the first period to give the Cardinals' a 7-6 lead early in the Championship match. 

Gallegos and the second-ranked Cardinals are idle until Jan. 24 when they welcome the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to Gregory Arena at 6 pm.
