Jan. 23, 2023 - After helping his team to a 2-1 opening weekend, North Central College men's volleyball senior, Jeremy Cardenas was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week. The conference released its first selections of the 2023 season on Monday.

The Bolingbrook native played in all 10 sets across three matches over the weekend, the first being a 3-1 loss against No. 7 SUNY New Paltz on Friday before the Cardinals turned in 3-0 sweeps over both Wittenberg University and Illinois Tech on Saturday. 

The middle blocker led North Central at the net over the weekend turning in a 1.20 block-per-game average with 12 total blocks, six being solo. Cardenas had 2.30 kills per game, totaling 23 kills with a .588 hitting percentage. His hitting percentage currently ranks atop the CCIW performance list.

This marks Cardenas's third CCIW student-athlete of the week award in his career.

Cardenas and the Cardinals head to Aurora University on Tuesday, Jan. 24 for their next non-conference match. The match is set for 7 p.m. at the Thornton Gymnasium.
