Cardinals Claim 18th Straight Team Academic Award

Jan. 30, 2023 - The North Central College women's cross country team and two of its student-athletes found themselves on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic lists for the 18th consecutive season.

The 2022 NCAA Division III Cross Country All-Academic Teams were announced on Thursday by the USTFCCCA. In order to qualify for the All-Academic honor, a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.1 on a 4.0 scale must be achieved in the most recent grading period. 

The Cardinals achieved their 18th consecutive USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award this season with a team GPA of 3.675. North Central is one of 212 programs that were named All-Academic Teams for their excellence during the 2022 season. 

Junior Nicole Brandy was recognized as an All-Academic student-athlete for the first time in her career. Brandy finished 31st overall at the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Championship (23:12.7). Julia Benes earned All-Academic honors finishing 47th overall at the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Championship (23:43.0). 

In order to qualify for the All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must fit the criteria of a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet. Benes and Brady are two of 383 women from 137 institutions who were named All-Academic Athletes for the 2022 season.
