Naperville, Ill. (Oct. 18, 2023) - On Senior Night and their final home game of the regular season, the North Central College men's soccer team shutout Millikin University 3-0.
The Cardinals offense wasted no time in the first half as
Jared Urueta took a shot on goal in the 8th minute but hit the top of the woodwork. Only two minutes later, Urueta scored off a pass from
Edoardo Bonifacio.
Bonifacio followed with a goal of his own in the 39th minute with help from
Aidan Westerberg, putting the Cardinals in a 2-0 lead.
Bonifacio had another great chance in the 41st minute when North Central received a penalty kick, however this time Millikin's goalkeeper
Oliwier Holowinski was just barely able to get a hand on the ball.
The Cardinals lost no momentum during halftime. In the 68th minute Westerberg closed out the game by firing the ball to the back of the net off a pass from Urueta.
The Cardinals picked up their fifth shutout of the season, while
Sid Marquardt picked up his first of the season and 20th of his career.
With Westerberg's assist this evening he has now tied the men's soccer program's career assist record of 19 that was set by Stan Mietus (1986-1989).
The Cardinals extended their overall record to 13-1-2 with their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) win over the Big Blue (5-8-1) moving to a 4-0-2 CCIW record.
North Central heads to Bloomington, Ill. to take on Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday Oct. 21 at Neis Field. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
