CCIW Week 7 Student-Athletes of the Week
Oct. 23, 2023 - North Central College linebacker Zack Orr has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Football Student-Athlete of the Week for games played Oct. 23, becoming the first Cardinal to be so honored this season. North Central has had at least one winner of the CCIW's weekly awards following each of their last six games.
Orr recorded seven solo tackles in the Cardinals' 49-3 victory over Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday, registering three quarterback sacks to match the third-highest single-game total in the program's history. Each sack contributed to the demise of a WashU offensive drive, two of which occurred in the Cardinals' territory. North Central limited the Bears to 196 total yards, their lowest of the season, and held a second straight opponent without a touchdown. For the season, Orr has made 22 total tackles (18 solo), including 6.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, four pass breakups and an interception.
This week's selection gives the Cardinals (7-0, 6-0 CCIW) at least one Student-Athlete of the Week winner for the sixth consecutive week. Kicker Sean Ryniec received the conference's honor on special teams following a 59-6 victory over Elmhurst University and Lehnen was so honored after North Central's 70-0 win over Carthage College and their 54-35 victory over Wheaton College. DeAngelo Hardy was joined on the CCIW's weekly honor roll by special teams honoree Joey Lombardi following a 69-24 triumph over Carroll University and Hardy repeated as the Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week after a 75-3 victory at Millikin University.
Still ranked No. 1 by D3football.com and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), North Central travels to face North Park University (4-3, 3-3) Saturday. Kickoff at the Holmgren Athletic Complex is set for 1:00 p.m. Click HERE for the full 2023 schedule and live coverage options.
