ELMHURST, ILL. (Oct. 27, 2023) - Picking up their 17th win of the season, the North Central College women's volleyball team defeated University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 3-1 on Friday night.

The Cardinals opened up the contest with a kill from Abbi Barickman. The Cardinals went on a four-point run and then the two teams started to trade off points. A kill by Maddi Barickman gave the Cardinals the momentum to keep the lead for the rest of the set. With the twin connection, M. Barickman set the ball to A. Barickman for a kill, closing out the set 25-17.

With North Central up 6-2 early in the second set, La Crosse called a timeout to reorganize. The new game plan led the Eagles to tie up the game 6-6 and an attacking error from the Cardinals gave the Eagles the lead. Three kills from Amber Vande Hei would give North Central a 10-9 lead. With points going back and forth the Cardinals got the second set 25-18.

The Eagles gained momentum between sets and found themselves up 4-7 in the third set. After calling a timeout, the Cardinals rallied back and tied the game up 10-10 off a kill from A. Barickman. Multiple kills from Kendra Battle, A. Barickman, M. Barickaman, Aidan Brown, and Vande Hei were not enough to get the Cardinals past the Eagles, dropping the set 23-25.

Looking to finish off the match, North Central went on a seven-point run in the fourth set, led by serves from M. Barickman, including a serving ace. North Central continued to lead the game even after the Eagles were within one point of the Cardinals (18-17). The Cardinals stayed strong, going on another seven-point run. With two serving aces from Taylor O'Malley and an attack error from the Eagles offense, the Cardinals won the match.

North Central plays a double header inside Gregory Arena Oct. 28. The first game against #5 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game against Knox College begins at 4:30 p.m.
