Adrian, Mich. (Nov. 13, 2023) - The North Central College women's wrestling team remains perfect in their first seven duals of the season at the Adrian College Women's Duals in Adrian, Mich.
In their first dual of the day, North Central faced No. 6 Gannon University.
Maddie Avila (101) started the day off for the Cardinals with a dominating 10-0 technical fall over Chloe Kitagawa.
Kendra Ryan (109) followed Avila with her own 10-0 technical fall win over Kealonie Vega.
Sydney Petzinger (116) picked up her first win of the day with a 10-0 technical fall against Katerina Pendergrass.
The Cardinals would win the next three matches as
Asia Nguyen-Smith (123) only needed 55 seconds to pin Jadyen Bazemore before
Sara Sterner (130) pinned Zoe Gaetjens in 46 seconds.
Yele Aycock (136) picked up her own pin, taking down Katie Palmer in two minutes and 26 seconds.
Kendall Bostelman (143) defeated Lili Ujfalvi by a 4-3 decision.
London Houston (155) extended the Cardinals lead with a 10-0 technical fall over Ariana Gonzales.
Larissa Gallo (170) defeated Annabelle Helm with a 11-0 technical fall. Finishing off the Cardinal sweep was
Brittyn Corbishley (191) with a 10-0 technical fall over Christina Chavez, giving the North Central a 42-1 win.
In the second dual of the day, North Central took on Indiana Tech. Avila (101) and Ryan (109) picked up their second wins of the day, both defeating their opponents with 10-0 technical falls.
Amaya Yoshizumi (116) fell to Emma Jones before Nguyen-Smith (123) defeated Aubree Kuhns by a 10-0 technical fall.
Salome Walker picked up her first win of the day by defeating Ellyana Kzma by a 12-6 decision.
Meanwhile,
Sydney Park (136) got her first win of the day by pinning Carley Anderson in one minute and 52 seconds. Bostelman (143) won against Maia Crumb with a 16-8 decision. Tierea Jimerson (155) got her first win of the day against Loralei Smith with a 10-0 technical fall. Gallo (170) won against Catherine McNulty in a dominating 9-2 decision.
Caroline Ward (191) picked up the Cardinals final match against Indiana Tech by a forfeit from the Warriors. North Central defeated Indiana Tech with an overall score of 35-7.
North Central took on their second ranked opponent of the day, No. 10 Adrian College, in their third dual. Avila (101) started the Cardinals off strong by pinning Alexi Hart-Butcher in one minute and 11 seconds.
Angelina Graff (109) picked up her first win of the day defeating Emily Mendez in a 3-2 decision.
Janessa George (116) dominated her first match of the day with a pin (5:16) against Carleigh Czerneski. Petzinger (123) defeated Angela LoRusso with a dominating 12-2 technical fall. Sterner (130) picked up a win for the Cardinals by a forfeit from the Bulldogs.
Taylor Graveman only needed 29 seconds to pin Isabella Richardson in her first match of the day.
Niya Teresita Gaines (143) defeated Taylor Cutler in a 10-0 technical fall. Lizze Raleigh (155) fell to Nyla Burgess in a 10-6 decision before Gallo (170) picked up her third win of the day by defeating Elisa Cox by a 10-0 technical fall. Corbishley (191) finished the Bulldogs off by pinning Xsaria Puente in only 13 seconds, giving the Cardinals a 41-5 win.
In the fourth dual of the day, North Central took on Davenport University.
Amber Turner (101) and Avila (109) picked up automatic wins from forfeits by the Panthers. Yoshizumi (116) defeated Elizabeth Palmer with a pin in one minute and 53 seconds.
Haley Vann (130),
Alondra Morales (136), and
Rylee Bennett (143) won all their matches by forfeit.
Shelby Ottum dominated Alexis Adams, pinning her in only 29 seconds.
Caitlyn Flaherty (170) picked up her first win of the day and finished off the Bulldogs by defeating Libia Hernandez with a pin in five minutes. The Cardinals shut out the Bulldogs in a 40-0 win.
North Central faced No. 13 Northern Michigan University in the fifth dual of the day. In the 101-pound match the Cardinals jumped up to an automatic 5-0 lead as Turner won her match by a forfeit. Graff (109) defeated Trinity Valentin in a 10-0 technical fall prior to George picking up another win for the Cardinals due to a Wildcat forfeit. Yoshizumi pinned Zhivanna Magdaleno in two minutes and 33 seconds. Vann (130) dominated Samantha Chaon only needing 29 seconds to pin her. Park (136) continued the pinning party by taking 2 minutes and 33 seconds to pin Sharon Leon. Gaines (143) fell to Roth by pin (2:38) before Raleigh (155) received a win over Jenna Filoeri due to injury. Flaherty (170) fell to Abigale Swanson by pin (2:55) before Ward (191) pinned Mickaela Keane in 53 seconds, giving the Cardinals a 39-10 win.
Next, the Cardinals took on foe No. 3 McKendree University in dual six of the day. Avila (101) defeated Kiona Conner by a 4-2 decision before Ryan (109) dominated Pauline Granados with a 12-1 technical fall. Petzinger (116) overtook Salyna Shotwell with a 11-2 decision. Nguyen-Smith (123) won a close battle with Julia Vidallon with an 8-8 decision before Walker (130) fell to Jennifer Soto by a pin (4:47). Graveman (136) defeated Estella Gutches in a 12-2 technical fall. Aycock (143) defeated Viktorya Torres in an 8-3 decision. Houston (155) picked up her second win of the day by pinning Destiny Rodriguez in two minutes and four seconds. Jimerson (170) defeated Ruby Rios in a 10-0 decision. Corbishley (191) finished off the Bearcats pinning Erika Brokvich in one minute and one second. North Central won against McKendree with an overall 34-11 win.
In the final dual of the day, North Central took on Indiana Tech one last time. The Cardinals dropped the first two matches against the Warriors. Turner (101) was defeated by a pin from Whitley Blake (1:36), while Graff (109) fell to Makayla Young in a 10-0 technical fall. George (116) took back some momentum for the Cardinals by pinning Korigan Wilkey (3:39). However, Yoshizumi (123) fell to Emma Jones in the following match by a pin (1:56). Vann (130) defeated Marisa Moffitt with a 10-0 technical fall before Morales (136) picked up another win for the Cardinals by a Warrior forfeit. Bennett (143) fell to Maia Crumb in a 13-0 technical fall, but Ottum (155) followed up for the Cardinals by pinning Cydney Bassett in three minutes and 41 seconds. North Central picked up the next two matches, with Flaherty (170) winning by an 11-8 decision over Grace Doering and Ward (191) defeating Catherine McNulty with a 10-0 technical fall, giving the Cardinals a 26-19 win.
The Cardinals finished the day with a perfect, 7-0 record. North Central would continue their weekend in Adrian, Mich. with the Adrian College Open the following day (Nov. 12).
