FrogJump Team of the Week
Feb. 14, 2023 - The North Central College men's volleyball team found two of its student-athletes on the FrogJump Team of the Week as
Jared Moser and
Jeremy Cardenas were recognized for their efforts in the Cardinals' two wins last week over Concordia University Wisconsin and Benedictine University. North Central also lands at No. 11 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national rankings.
North Central completed a three-set sweep over Concordia University Wisconsin last Tuesday before claiming the 3-1 victory and taking home the Christian Staple's Battle of Chicago & Maple traveling trophy on Saturday. The Cardinals own a 6-2 record on the year.
Moser claims his second bid to the FrogJump Team of the Week after totaling 35 kills, 22 of which came in the Benedictine match, setting a new program record for kills in a four-set match. Moser averaged five kills per set with a .429 hitting percentage while picking up 10 digs, three aces, and a block on the week. Moser was also named the AVCA Division III National Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Cardenas was an asset to the Cardinals both offensively and defensively last week, totaling 19 kills, 10 blocks, five digs and three assists. This mark's the All-American's first FrogJump team of the week honor.
North Central came in at No. 11 in this week's AVCA national rankings while Juniata (12-0) moved into the No. 1 rank over Stevens (13-2). Springfield (10-1) held its No. 3 ranking while College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) foe, Carthage (7-3) moved into fourth. Vassar (8-1), St John Fisher (12-3), Messiah (9-2) each dropped one spot in fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively. SUNY New Paltz (8-4) and Nazareth (13-0) held their spots in eighth and ninth while NYU (7-2) and North Central (6-2) flipped positions in 10th and 11th, respectively. UC Santa Cruz (13-4), Mount Union (9-3), Rutgers-Newark (5-3), and Marymount (8-3) rounded out the nation's top-15.
The Cardinals head to Thousand Oaks, California this weekend for the California Lutheran University Tournament. Their first match is set for Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. (PT) against California Lutheran at the Gilbert Arena.
