Feb. 22, 2023 – Using the momentum from an incredibly successful fall season, the North Central College athletic teams continue to build on those achievements throughout the New Year. The sports information department has been with the teams every step of the way to provide coverage for all 27 programs on campus.
Â
With the North Central College women's wrestling team hosting the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Coaches (NCWWC) Regional Championship for the first time Sunday at Merner Field House, the North Central sports information department was able to showcase the College, the team, and the emerging sport of women's wrestling to local and regional audiences.
Â
North Central was one of just two regional tournaments to offer a free live stream for spectators across the country to tune in at no charge. The sports information office also provided coverage for the meet on social media channels while creating official credentials and helped in the making of the coaches' manual.
Â
To assist with tournament communications for the meet, former sports information graduate assistant and Loras College Director of Athletic Communication Emily Adlfinger '17/M'19 served as the communications director for the tournament. This allowed
Matt Eaker '21/M'23, the women's wrestling contact for North Central sports information to promote the Cardinals program with the help of the student staff and graduate assistant
Taiah Gallisath '20/M'23.
Â
"Since this was our first time hosting the event, I wanted us to make sure we created a championship atmosphere for everyone involved," sports information director
Clark Teuscher said. "Emily's experience managing high-profile wrestling tournaments, people skills and institutional knowledge put us in position to host a fantastic event for the student-athletes."
Â
Graduates of North Central and the sports information office have continued to work in athletics for their careers. Kim Ippolito '13/M '15 works for the Minnesota Vikings as the digital & social content coordinator. Mia Narcisi'18 worked for the Chicago Blackhawks while Hamza Bhatti '21 works for the Chicago Bulls. Elliott Carr M'17 stayed in the college setting and currently works at Princeton University's (New Jersey) Athletic Communication offices. Ashleigh Jones M'18 stayed at the Division III level and works as the assistant director of athletics communications at DePauw University (Indiana). Others have stayed at North Central with
Nicholas Osterloo '19/M'21 working as the assistant sports information director and Brianna Avalos '21 working for NCC's camps and conference services. Outside of sports, Bry'shawna Walker '22 is currently on staff in Washington D.C. in the White House after working with sports information for four years.
Â
"We're fortunate to offer students opportunities to learn industry-standard skills and techniques that can launch them into amazing careers. The alumni who have gone on from here are making a difference at institutions all over the country to the benefit of thousands of student-athletes", said Teuscher.
Â
