KALAMAZOO, Mich, (Feb. 3, 2023) - Facing Kalamazoo College for the first time since 1989, the North Central College men's tennis team swept doubles play on their way to a 7-2 rout over the Hornets. The Cardinals (No. 9) entered the match one spot behind Kalamazoo (No. 8) in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division III Central Region Rankings.

Capturing the first victory of the match was Colten Way and Brayden Kopp who teamed up at No. 2 doubles to win, 8-4. Moments later, Matthew Sengphommachanh and Daniel Estanislao earned an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles before Ramon Vilarroig Martinez and Guillermo Gonzalez Fernandez completed the doubles sweep with a slight 8-7 victory at No. 1 doubles.

After Kalamazoo claimed singles wins at No. 2 and No. 3, Gonzalez Fernandez secured the first North Central win in singles play with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot. To clinch the match, Kopp locked up his first win in a Cardinals uniform, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 6 position. Vilarroig Martinez (No.1 ) and Way (No. 5) also earned wins in singles action.

The Cardinals continue their competitive road schedule as they take on the defending National Champions, the No. 1 University of Chicago on Feb. 11th in the first match of a doubleheader. They finish the night by taking on the Illinois Institute of Technology. Both matches are set to be played at XS Tennis in Chicago.
