MEQUON, Wis. (Feb. 8, 2023) - After taking a short break in competition, the North Central College men's volleyball team completed a strong three-set sweep over the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons Wednesday Night inside Buuck Field House.

Despite picking up the opening point with a kill by Austin Scott, the Cardinals struggled to find and maintain the set one lead early on. With the score tied at 10-all, Gabriel Aguado and Jared Moser combined for four straight points with two service aces for Aguado and two kills by Moser to put North Central ahead 14-10. The Cardinals battled point-for-point for much of the first set until Moser sealed the 25-19 set win with his eighth kill of the night.

Set two saw a slew of attack errors for the Falcons while Jeremy Cardenas and Tyler Donovan connected on a block to gain an early lead at 6-3. Kills by Moser and Jake Miller and a solo block for Connor Davis helped North Central to a 20-13 lead as CUW struggled to find some momentum. The Cardinals took set two 25-12.

Cardenas opened set three with a solo block to get the Cardinals rolling. The Falcons fought to stay within four but a seven-point run that featured three service aces for Moser gave North Central the 11-point advantage. The Cardinals scored three straight points before Cardenas ended the match with his eighth kill of the night to win set three 25-12.

Moser totaled 13 kills and three service aces on the night while Miller followed with 11 kills. Aguado picked up two service aces while Jeremy Cardenas had four blocks. Tyler Donovan had three blocks of his own while totaling 36 assists.

North Central travels the short distance to Benedictine University on Saturday, Feb. 11 for Christian Staple's Battle of Chicago and Maple Memorial Match. Staple served as an assistant coach at North Central before taking on the head coaching role at Benedictine. The match is slated for a 3 p.m. start and will serve as an annual event rotating between the two schools as host sites.
