Men’s Lacrosse Clipped by Clarkson in Spring Break Opener

ORLANDO, FLA. (Mar. 12, 2023) - The North Central College men's lacrosse team lost to Clarkson University 12-6 in their first game of spring break on Sunday afternoon in Orlando, Fla. at the Northeast Regional Park. 

North Central (2-2) squared off with the Golden Knights (4-0) for the first time in program history on Sunday and the Cardinals found themselves with an early two goal lead as Tom Eberhardt and Nick Rubino both scored. Bryan Penney would finish off a Andrew Kearney pass to get the Golden Knights on the board but Jack Moran found Eberhardt with 3:02 to go in the first quarter to extend their lead to 3-1. The Golden Knights dominated the second quarter, scoring the only three goals to give them a 4-3 advantage heading into halftime. 

The Golden Knights came out of the break ready to extend their lead and just two minutes into the quarter, Sam Manacabelli found the back of the net to give them a 5-3 lead. Two minutes later, Moran put the Cardinals within one with a goal of his own by Clarkson would go on a two goal run to give them a 7-4 lead heading into the final quarter of play. Moran kicked off the fourth quarter with his second goal of the game on man-up as a third quarter offside penalty by Clarkson rolled over into the fourth. However, Clarkson would put the game away with a  four goal run to give them an 11-5 advantage. Moran would pick up his third goal of the game with 4:10 remaining but Clarkson responded with a goal of  their own as the Cardinals fell 12-6. 

Moran led the Cardinals with three goals while Bryan Penney of Clarkson led all scorers with four goals in the contest. Eberehardt scored two goals of his own while Rubino found the back of the net once. Clarkson dominated the face-offs as they went 17 of 21 for a 81% face-off percentage while the Cardinals only won four of 21 face-offs. Jake Allgood tallied 12 saves in the game as he fell to 2-2 on  the season. 

The Cardinals finish their spring break trip with a midweek tilt against Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday, March 15 at 12 pm CT at Northeast Regional Park in Orlando, Fla.
