2022-2023 AVCA All-Region Team

Apr. 18, 2023 - The North Central College men's volleyball program lands three student-athletes on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region team while also claiming major awards in Jared Moser for Region Player of the Year and Kyle Exline and his staff for Region Coach of the Year.

The North Central coaching staff has led the Cardinals to the program's best record to date of 22-3 with a perfect 10-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) record — the program's first-ever undefeated season in conference play — while also bringing home both the CCIW regular season and tournament trophies for the first time. The Cardinals are running on their longest-ever winning streak (14) as they enter the NCAA Tournament.

As a team, North Central leads Division III in kills per set (13.31) and ranks third in assists per set (12.09). The Cardinals have the division's fourth-best hitting percentage of .326 and win-loss percentage of .880.

Jared Moser has added AVCA Region Player of the Year to his resume after already earning praise as the CCIW Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year just last week. Moser becomes the first Cardinal in program history to be named to the AVCA All-West Region team for four-straight years. The senior outside hitter has so far recorded 321 kills on the season to break his own single-season record and ranks sixth in the nation for his 4.12 kills per set average.

Jeremy Cardenas earns his second-consecutive All-Region nod after ranking among the nation's best in blocks per set (1.173) and hitting percentages (.439) this season. The senior middle blocker holds the Cardinals' single-season (95) and career (245) block records and has the best hitting percentage (.413) in program history across his four seasons.

Tyler Donovan claims his first-ever All-Region selection after leading the nation for much of the season in assists per set (10.32) while totaling 867 assists this year to break the program's single-season record. The junior setter also leads the team in digs (152) and has the second-most blocks (61) and service aces (18) for the Cardinals.

North Central is one of four host sites for the NCAA Regional Championships and will face Benedictine University on Friday, April 21 at 4 p.m. inside Gregory Arena. Carthage College and UC-Santa Cruz make up the regional pod and will compete at the 6:30 p.m. time slot on Friday with the winners of each match advancing to the championship match on Saturday, April 22 at 6 p.m.
