NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 22, 2023) - Earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season, the North Central College women's tennis swept Wheaton College 6-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Championship match on Saturday afternoon at Naperville Tennis Club.
Nina Patience and Mikayla Edquiban secured an 8-1 victory in the No. 3 doubles spot before Abigail Penados and Natalie Bassett earned an 8-4 win at the No. 1 position. To complete the doubles sweep, Kensington Payne and Anastasia Bozovic battled to an 8(8)-7(6) win at No. 2.
Patience also picked up the first win in singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Janet Kondo at No. 5. Giving North Central their 35th straight CCIW win and the CCIW Tournament Title was Kayla McSweeney with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 6 spot. Payne earned a simultaneous win at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Penados, Bassett, and Edquiban all won first-set matches in their respective positions.
The Cardinals await their NCAA Tournament opponent and location. The NCAA DIII women's tennis selection show will take place on May 1st at 11:00 a.m. on NCAA.com.
