NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Apr. 28, 2023) - The North Central College baseball team saw their nine-game winning streak come to an end on Friday night as they fell to the University of Chicago, 11-0 at Zimmerman Stadium.

After a 1-2-3 inning from starting pitcher AJ Kutcher, Dom Listi extended his on-base streak to 69 games with a single up the middle. Rob Marinec followed that up with a single of his own. Justin Rios loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch, but the Cardinals could not take advantage as Drew Bryan worked out of the jam.

The Maroons' bats came alive in the second as they scored the game's first run on an RBI single. UChicago totaled seven hits, all singles, to score six runs in the top half of the second inning. They tacked on five more runs on four hits in the third inning to open an 11-0 lead.

Marinec drew a leadoff walk in the bottom half of the third before the Maroons turned a double play and forced a groundout to keep the Cardinals off the board.

In the sixth inning, UChicago loaded the bases with two hits and a walk. Matt Ambrose entered the game in relief and worked out of the bases-loaded jam to keep the Maroons scoreless in the sixth.

The Cardinals could not put a runner on base in the final two innings as UChicago earned an 11-0 win. Kutcher suffered his first loss of the season as he moves to 5-1. Michael Davis led the Cardinals with two hits while Listi, Marinec, and Rios all recorded one hit on the night.

North Central returns to CCIW play tomorrow as they visit Carthage College for a doubleheader. The start of game one has been pushed back an hour to a 1:00 p.m. start at Augie Schmidt Field in Kenosha.
