NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Jan 11, 2024) - The North Central College Cardinals men's wrestling team hosted the Elmhurst University Bluejays in the Battle of the Nest. The Cardinals took down the Bluejays handily as they won the dual 48-4.
Before the match, the men's and women's wrestling teams unveiled their banners from the previous seasons. The men's team finished fourth in the NCAA Division III Championship and had three All-Americans along with it.
The wrestling team won the first nine of the ten matches. Ethan Spacht started it off with a quick fall in 1:14 over Donovin Fields in the 125 matchup. Josh Robison in the next match that took place also won in with a pin in 1:34 over Joe Fornaro for the 141 match.
Kenny Siwicki in the 149 match went the distance but pulled out the victory in a 8-0 major decision against Zach Kolb. Luke Christie in the 157 match also drew some suspense and a lot of action as he pulled off the victory with a 13-2 major decision over Mataeo Blessing.
Armando Murillo won the 165 match with a pin over Jeff Nugent in 2:13. Casey Aikman in the 174 match took down Ronald Massari with a 19-4 technical fall. For the 184 match, Cole Cervantes won decisively against Colin O`Neill with an 18-3 technical fall.
The Cardinals will travel next to Elmhurst University in the Al Hanke Invitational Jan. 13.
