Jan. 20, 2024 - The North Central College men's volleyball team earned their first win of the season by sweeping Adrian College, 3-0, inside Gregory Arena Saturday night.

The first set began with both teams trading off points, but at 10-7 the Cardinals picked up their pace. North Central went on a six-point run, starting from a Bulldogs service error, continuing with three Cardinal kills, and a service ace from Luke Schmidt (16-7). Adrian was not able to keep up with North Central and a kill for Schmidt gave the Cardinals the set (25-10).

North Central took the lead in the second set after a kill from Mitchell Hester and a kill from Jared Moser (2-0). The Bulldogs and the Cardinals each took three point runs before the Cardinals started to pull away. At 15-11 North Central picked up three points from Adrian errors and another kill by Moser (19-11). Just like the first set, a kill by Schmidt gave North Central the 25-18 win.

In the final set at 2-2, Adrian picked up three points to take the lead. Cooper Lundal put a stop to the Bulldogs run with a pair of kills. Then, it was Tyler Donovan who tied the game 5-5 with a kill of his own. Two consecutive errors from Adrian gave North Central the lead (7-5). The Cardinals took advantage of three Bulldog errors and proceeded to widen the gap (15-10). Kills from Moser and Scott continued to push the Cardinals closer to the win at 23-18. After a service ace by Moser put North Central within one (24-18), the match ended with an attack error from the Bulldogs.

With almost even kills across the board from Moser (9), Scott (8) and Lundal (7), the Cardinals led the match in kills tallying 35 kills while the Bulldogs finished with 25 kills. Moser also recorded three service aces, two aces in the second set and one ace in the third set. Donovan continues to dominate in the assists category by adding 24 more assists to his career.

North Central will have a week off before hosting California Lutheran University at 7:30 pm Friday, Jan. 26 inside Gregory Arena.
