Cedar Falls, Iowa (Jan 7, 2024) - The North Central Cardinals men's wrestling team took fourth place at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals over the weekend. The event featured the top teams in the country all under one roof.

The Cardinals fell to No. 1 Augsburg University 37-11 in the semifinals. They started off strong with the first two matches resulting in victories from No. 2 Christian Guzman and Robert Precin. Guzman in the 125 match won the match with a 26-10 tech fall. Precin followed it up with a 133-match win with a 2-1 decision. The Auggies rattled off seven straight victories before Robby Bates closed out the dual with a win by decision over No. 1 Tyler Kim in the 285 match. 

In the third-place match, the Cardinals fell in a very tight match to No. 3 University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 15-22. Guzman and Precin led it off for the team once again. Guzman won with another 18-1 technical fall against No. 10 Remington Bontreger. Precin won his matchup in a 10-1 major decision. In the 141-matchup, No. 7 Bradley Rosen defeated No. 14 Sam Lorenz in a 2-0 decision. The 165-match featured No. 8 Alex Villar defeating No. 6 Noah Leisgang in a 4-2 decision. UW-La Crosse earned wins in the final four weight classes to clinch the win.

The top five finishers at the National Duals are Wartburg College, Augsburg University, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, North Central College, and in fifth place is Coe College 

The Cardinals will be back on the mat when they take on conference opponent, Elmhurst University on Thursday, Jan 11.
