CCIW Wrestler of the Week
 
Jan. 9, 2024 - After just joining the North Central College women's wrestling team on the mat this semester, Alara Boyd has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Wrestler of the Week for her hard work at the NWCA National Duals.
 
Boyd comes to North Central as a graduate student after graduating from McKendree University where she majored in Business. She was a four-year member of the Bearcats women's wrestling team. Boyd is a highly decorated wrestler from her time at McKendree, she was also a World Team member for several years.
 
At the NWCA National Duals last weekend, Boyd wrestled for the Cardinals at the 143-pound weight class against No. 5 McKendree in the semifinals and No. 1 University of Iowa in the finals.
 
In the semifinals against her alma mater, Boyd earned her first win as a Cardinal. She took down No. 7 Viktorya Torres with a 10-0 technical fall.
 
In the finals, Boyd saw No. 1 Reese Larramendy of the University of Iowa. Boyd was up early in the first period with a 6-0 lead. The two wrestlers traded off two-point takedowns and time ticked down, while Boyd held an 8-2 lead on Larramendy. The second period scoring started with a point given to Boyd for a Larramendy step out before the two traded two-point takedowns once again. Boyd got the win over Larramendy with a 9-4 decision.
