Oct. 16, 2024 - The North Central College men's soccer team faced a long battle in its matchup against Millikin University Wednesday night in Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The Cardinals fell 1-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match. North Central's record declined to a 5-4-4 record with the loss, while Millikin improved to 8-4-1.
The Big Blue capitalized early against the Cardinals, scoring the lone goal of the game at the 14-minute mark. Senior
Jared Urueta had an opportunity to tie the game when he fired a bicycle kick to the Millikin net; unfortunately, Big Blue's goalkeeper, Oliwier Holowinski, was there to scoop up the shot. The Cardinals' defense held off Millikin's offensive efforts for the remainder of the half. The second half saw back-and-forth action, but the Cardinals could not find the equalizer.
The Cardinals edged the Big Blue in shots, 12-11, and shots on goal, 5-3. North Central also created seven corner opportunities and only surrendered just one defensively. Urueta led the Cardinals with five shot attempts, while
Luis Aviles and
Ghettryam Nikiema had two shots each.
North Central stays home as the Cardinals host Carthage College Saturday, Oct. 19. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. start.
