Oct. 23, 2024 -  Following a week that saw her win the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Player of the Year and the Cardinals earn a share of the CCIW Championship, North Central College women's tennis player Abigail Penados has been named the CCIW Player of the Week.

Penados defeated Hanna Zethraeus (North Park University) after dropping the first set, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. In doubles actions, Penados partnered with Kensington Payne to claim a 6-1 victory at the top doubles spot. The junior has never lost CCIW match in her time at North Central, posting a 16-0 record this season between singles and doubles play.

This marks Penados' third CCIW weekly award and her first since Sept. 13, 2023. She becomes the fourth player in program history to earn a CCIW Player of the Week honor three or more times since the league began issuing the award in 2007.

The Cardinals finished the fall season 7-1 with a share of their fifth straight CCIW Title. North Central takes on the defending champions in the University of Chicago on Feb 22 at XS Tennis.
