ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (Nov. 13, 2024)- Traveling to the Carver Center in Rock Island, Ill., for a midweek dual vs. the Augustana College Vikings (1-1, 1-1 CCIW), the North Central College men's wrestling team (2-0, 2-0 CCIW) has extended their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) dual win streak to 52 after dominating the Vikings 42-6.
The Cardinals found success against the Vikings, winning nine of their 10 matches of the night. North Central won three matches by fall, two by tech fall, two by major decision, and two by decision.Â
Kicking off the night, No. 2 ranked 125-pound wrestler Christian Guzman defeated Chris Sitter via fall. Guzman has four pins on the season as he remains undefeated in the early season, moving to 6-0. The victory gave the Cardinals an early 6-0 lead.Â
Ethan Spacht had a showdown with Khadyn Jacobs in the 133-pound weight class, and it would be another fall victory for North Central, which gave them a 12-0 lead. Spacht scored his third pinfall win of the season, and he sits at 6-1 this season.Â
In the 141-pound weight class, Kayle Bearson made his season debut squaring off against Colin Roque and won by a 20-7 major decision to move the Cardinals lead to 16-0.Â
Tyler Starr and Mikey Rodriguez had a very close match in the 149-pound weight class, as Starr came away with a 9-8 decision win and gave the Cardinals a 19-0 lead over the Vikings. Starr's decision victory moves him to 5-2 on the season.Â
North Central's success continued into the 155-pound weight class as Harrison Konder scored an 8-5 decision victory over Michael Macias. Konder continues to improve on his season as he moves to a 4-2 overall record. The win for Konder put the Cardinals up 22-0.Â
No. 5 ranked 165-pound wrestler Alex Villar maintained his excellence as he gave North Central their last fall victory of the night, taking down Jack Patting, putting the Cardinals ahead 28-0. Villar is 2-0 on the season, with both wins coming against CCIW opponents.Â
Jerry Nino suffered his third loss of the season, falling to Jack Miller by pinfall in the 174-pound weight class. Nino's loss gave Augustana their only win of the night and made the score 28-6 Cardinals. Nino is 0-3 in the early season.Â
Payton Geigner got the Cardinals back on the board, defeating Braiden Young in the 184-pound weight class via tech fall (16-1). Geigner remains a perfect 5-0 on the season, getting his first win by tech fall. The lead would extend for the Cardinals to 33-6.Â
A dominant performance by Elijah Brockie in the 197-pound weight class earned him a 17-0 tech fall win over Conor Phelan. Brockie improves to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 against CCIW opponents. The Cardinals lead increased to 38-6 after the Brockie win.Â
No. 3 ranked 285-pound wrestler Robby Bates defeated Clay DeBaillie by a 15-3 major decision to cap off the night for the Cardinals. Bates' victory gave the Cardinals the 42-6 final score. Bates moves to 2-0 on the season, with both wins being against CCIW teams.Â
The Cardinals will return to tournament action for the Concordia Wisconsin Open in Mequon, Wis., inside the R. John Buuck Field House. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23, with a 9 a.m. start. Click HERE for the full schedule.Â
