WARRENVILLE, ILL. (Nov. 2, 2024)- The North Central College women's cross country team placed third in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship this afternoon at St. James Farm.
North Central had the third most votes in the pre-championship coaches' poll. Wheaton College, the favorite to win the CCIW, came in first with 50 team points. Illinois Wesleyan University kept it close, placing second with 65 points and the Cardinals third place finish was with 83 points.
The Cardinals would finish the race with three All-CCIW team selections, two on the first team and one on the second team.
Julia Benes led the way for North Central as she would come in second place in the race. Benes finished the race in 22 minutes and 34 hundredths of a second. This effort earned her an All-CCIW First Team selection.
Lily Anderson secured the other All-CCIW First Team selection for the Cardinals as she placed seventh in the meet. Anderson finished the course with a time of 22 minutes and 38.99 seconds. In addition to the All-CCIW Team selection, Anderson also won the Elite 26 Award. The CCIW Elite 26 is presented to the student-athlete who excels academically and athletically at the conference level in each of the CCIW's 26 sponsored sports.
Segilola Smith-Pariola (22:54.85) placed 12th earning a spot on the All-CCIW Second Team.
Brianna Ruiz finished in 30th place with a time of 23:55.01. She also was awarded the RESPECT Award for North Central College. The RESPECT Award recognizes the intangible traits a student-athlete possesses that exemplify great character and encourages inclusiveness and a positive culture.
Marissa Magana (23:56.55) and Natalie Nestler (23:57.02) finished in 32nd and 33rd respectively.
Paige Runkle placed 40th with a time of 24:18.97, Emma Cecich (24:41.32) placed 45th and Olivia Parmelee (25:15.27) placed 56th.
The Cardinals return to action for the NCAA Regional Championship in Rock Island, Illinois. The regional championship is set for Saturday, Nov. 16. The meet begins at 12 p.m. Click HERE for the full schedule.
