Benes Caps Off Cross Country Career At Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (Nov. 23, 2024)- Getting an opportunity to run at nationals after a 10th place finish in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship, Julia Benes was able to cap off her cross country collegiate career on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in the NCAA Division III National Championship, placing 112th of 290 competitors. 

Benes completed the course in 22 minutes and 26.5 seconds. She completed the first kilometer in 3:14.8 before powering through to the 3-kilometer split with a 7:12.2 time jumping up 10 places. Ultimately she got passed up in the end, where she captured 112th place. 

Spending all four years with the Cardinals, Benes made the All-CCIW First Team in 2023 and 2024. She made the All-Region in 2023 and 2024, as well as a 2022 and 2023 Academic All-CCIW recipient. Benes made the All-CCIW Second Team once in 2022. 


The Massachusetts Institute of Technology took home first place with 128 points, while the University of Chicago put up a good fight to take second with 138 points. Williams College got on the podium in third place with 155 points.
