Nov. 4, 2024 - North Central College defensive tackle John Sullivan has been honored with a selection as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Football Student-Athlete of the Week, receiving the distinction for the first time after helping lead the Cardinals to victory against Caroll University Saturday.
Sullivan recorded five solo tackles, including a career-high four of North Central's six tackles for loss, a quarterback sack and a forced fumble in a 56-3 victory as the Cardinals held a third CCIW opponent without a touchdown this season. Sullivan is tied for first in the CCIW in tackles for loss (11.5) this season and tied for second in quarterback sacks (5) while ranking second on North Central's team in total tackles (39).
Through seven conference games, the Cardinals lead the CCIW in scoring defense (9.0 points allowed per game), total defense (204.3 yards allowed per game), rushing defense (56.9 ypg), defensive passing efficiency (91.1) and interceptions (10).
North Central has claimed six total CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week awards this season. Running back Joe Sacco was so recognized on offense after a 48-21 win at Aurora University, while quarterback Luke Lehnen earned the award after a 55-27 triumph over Wheaton College and a 49-10 victory over Augustana College. Linebacker BJ Adamchik and kicker Sean Ryniec were selected on defense and special teams, respectively, following a 69-0 Homecoming victory over North Park University Oct. 19.
