Nov. 5, 2024 - Daniel Szalai of the North Central College men's soccer team earned his first career College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week to close out this season's CCIW awards.
 
Szalai, a freshman goalkeeper from Mississauga, Ontario, helped the Cardinals earn two wins last week over Wheaton College and Millikin University in the quarterfinals of the CCIW tournament. On Oct. 30, against the Thunder, Szalai recorded three saves to help North Central shut out Wheaton 2-0. Saturday in the CCIW quarterfinals, Szalai was a wall in the net through regulation play, overtime, and a penalty-kick shutout. Szalai recorded another three saves on the Big Blue and improved to a 4-2-1 record in the Cardinals' net.
