CCIW Wrestler of the Week
 
Nov. 5, 2024 - Sara Sterner of the North Central College women's wrestling team has been named the first Student-Athlete of the Week by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) for the 2024-25 season. This is Sterner's first CCIW award in her career.
 
The senior had a successful weekend at the Pointer Open hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Sterner competed in the 131-pound weight class for North Central. She began the day with a bye, but in her first round of competition, Sterner only needed one minute and 14 seconds to pin Wartburg College's Khylie Wainwright. Sterner continued to dominate in the next round, pinning Grand Valley State's Hannah Palise in one minute and 10 seconds. Sterner held her one-point advantage in the semifinals, just edging away from Cardinal teammate Elianna White-Vega with a 3-2 decision. In the finals, Sterner picked up her third pin of the day over Stevens Point's Ngao Shoua Whitethorn in two minutes and 19 seconds. Sterner took home a first-place finish and a spotless 4-0 record.
 
Sterner and her Cardinal teammates are back in action Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. in Merner Fieldhouse when they host the Carthage College Firebirds.
