Nov. 6, 2024 – The North Central College women's soccer team cruised past the Millikin University Big Blue 4-0 at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, earning their fourth straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) tournament semi-final victory.
North Central (16-4, 7-1 CCIW) continued their unbesmirched home record firing off six shots in the first twenty minutes while Millikin (14-4-1, 5-3 CCIW) only managed one. Eight minutes later
Jordan Lange broke free to pass to
Elle Sutter to force a 1-0 lead.
With seventeen minutes left in the half, both offenses battled up and down the field, trading a shot each over the next ten minutes with
Olivia Mattison tallying her first save of the match. The stalemate broke when
Erin Jaskierski scored the second goal of the match with help from
Kassandra Salviola.
As the final six minutes of the period ticked by, only Salviola managed a shot in the 45th minute, setting a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Entering the second half, both defenses settled in for the first twenty-eight minutes only allowing one shot on goal apiece as Mattison snatched her second save and Myka Smith fended off an effort from
Yazmin Martinez.
The 68th minute had the Cardinals lengthen the lead as Sutter helped
Victoria Jaimes to put a shattering 3-0 lead. North Central did not wait long to score again as Lange sent her second assist of the match to Jaskierski for her second goal of the game eight minutes later.
With the game firmly out of reach, the Big Blue failed to find room on the Cardinal defense for a shot over the final twelve minutes of the match.
In total, North Central outshot Millikin with nineteen shots and eight on target to their four and two. On defense, the team earned their eighth straight shutout with Mattison tallying two saves through all ninety minutes.
