Dec. 11, 2024 - Freshman Aroma Marrufo of the North Central College women's wrestling team earned her first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week award. This is the third award won by a Cardinal wrestler this season.
 
Marrufo wrestled at the Carthage College Classic in the 124-pound weight class last weekend (Dec. 7). In the first round, Marrufo defeated Elmhurst University's Itzel Rodriguez with a 10-0 technical fall before earning a bye in the second round. Marrufo met teammate Bella Bolek on the mat in the third round. Marrufo picked up another technical fall win against Bolek (10-0).
 
Next, in the fourth round, Marrufo took on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Margaret Gillmore. Marrufo worked hard to rack up ten 10 points to defeat Gillmore with a 10-0 technical fall. In the championship match, Marrufo met Carthage's Alaina Hollendoner on the mat. Marrufo tallied her fourth technical fall of the day by defeating Hollendoner 10-0. Marrufo took home first place and increased her season record to 14-4.
 
Marrufo and her Cardinal teammates will compete in the North Central College Invitational at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, inside Residential Hall/Recreation Center in Naperville, Ill.
