Dec. 11, 2024 - Sara Sterner was named November's National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Regional Wrestler of the Month for Region 5, announced on Wednesday.
 
This award is the ninth time in the program's history that a Cardinal wrestler has earned it, while Sterner is only the seventh individual to receive it.
 
This season, wrestling in the 131 division, Sterner is ranked at the top of the weight class. She has tallied a spotless 12-0 record. In November, Sterner tallied an 11-0 record with nine wins by pins and two wins by decision.  Some of her wins include wins over nationally ranked opponents.
 
Most recently, the senior from Morro Bay, Calif., defeated Grand Valley State University's Hannah Palise with a 10-0 technical fall and helped the No. 1 Cardinals to take down the No. 4 Lakers 26-17.
 
Sterner is an automatic finalist for the NWCA's National Wrestler of the Month award, which will be announced tomorrow (Dec. 12).
 
Sterner and the Cardinals will be back on the mat Sunday, Dec. 15, at 9 a.m. inside Residential Hall/Recreation Center in Naperville, Ill.
