Dec. 17, 2024 - Freshman
Nadia Thomas of the North Central College women's wrestling team has earned her first career College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Student-Athlete of the Week honor after her success at the North Central College Invitational.
Â
The Lehi, Utah, native wrestled for the Cardinals in the 117 division. Thomas took down Oklahoma State Club's Haley Teter with a commanding 11-0 technical fall in her first match of the day before defeating Midland University's Destiny Castillo by a 10-0. In the quarterfinals, Thomas picked up her third technical fall of the day over Alexis Hart-Butcher (14-2). Thomas did not need long on the mat to win her fourth match of the day by a fall in one minute and 24 seconds over Ava Miller (Indiana Institute of Technology).
Â
In the championship match, Thomas faced off against William Jewell College's Miyah Palacios. Palacios was quick to start the match, but through perseverance and momentum, Thomas flipped the script. Thomas pinned Palacios in three minutes and 47 seconds to earn first place. This was Thomas's first collegiate tournament title. Thomas holds a 5-5 record on the season.

The Cardinals will take some time off competition before returning to the mat at 9 a.m. Monday, December 30, for the Midlands Championships. For ticket information, click
