Feb. 1, 2024 - The North Central College women's cross country team has been recognized by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as an All-Academic Team for the 19th straight season, while three Cardinals are presented with All-Acadeic Athlete honors as well.
The 2023 NCAA Division III Cross Country All-Academic Teams were announced Thursday by the USTFCCCA. In order to qualify for the All-Academic honor, a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.1 on a 4.0 scale must be achieved in the most recent grading period.
The Cardinals achieved a GPA of 3.47 during the fall semester and have qualified for the USTFCCCA's team award every year since 2005. North Central is one of 233 programs that were named All-Academic Teams for their excellence during the 2023 season and join Augustana College, Carthage College, Elmhurst University, Illinois Wesleyan University, North Park University and Wheaton College as representatives of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) on the list.
Making the All-Academic Athlete list are North Central's

Julia Benes and
Nicole Brandy, who are among 390 total honorees among 139 NCAA Division III programs. Benes and Brandy are both recognized for the second consecutive season.
In order to qualify for the All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must fit the criteria of a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
Benes, a history major, led the Cardinals at the 2023 Division III Midwest Region Championship with a 28th-place finish, followed by Anderson (health science) in 46th and Brandy (psychology) in 49th.
North Central placed third in the CCIW Championship and fifth in the Midwest Region Championship in 2023.
