Cardinals Defeats Raiders, 3-1

MILWAUKEE, ILL. (Feb. 8, 2024) - The North Central College men's volleyball team earned their fourth consecutive win defeating Thursday night against Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) in Milwaukee, Wis.
 
The Raiders started hot, winning the first three points of the match. However, the Cardinals were not ready to go down easy. At 8-9, Cooper Lundal made a kill that sent North Central on a five-point run to take the lead (12-9). Once the Cardinals took the lead they never looked back. A kill by Jared Moser delivered North Central the first set (25-20). 
 
North Central took complete control in the second set starting with the second point. At 8-5, the Cardinals went on a four-point run to increase their lead (12-5). North Central led the set 18-11 and the Cardinals took five straight points, including two service aces from Tyler Donovan (23-11). The Raiders took a short three-point run, but freshman Calen Koth sealed the deal with a kill. 
 
MSOE was not ready to go down without a fight and they used the third set to their advantage. The Raiders took a seven-point lead (11-5) and continued to bring the energy. The Raiders led the set 21-12 before a kill from Moser took the Cardinals on a five-point run. North Central was able to make a comeback and get within two points. However, the Raiders held steady, winning the set 25-21. 
 
The fourth set saw seven tied scores but no lead changes. North Central was determined to win the match and went up 3-0 at the beginning of the set. The Cardinals held onto their momentum and edged just ahead of the Raiders. Tied at 23-23. a kill from Austin Scott and an error from MSOE gave North Central the win (25-23).
 
Donovan continues to lead the Cardinals in assists match after match. Against the Raiders, Donovan tallied 35 assists and Danny Smithers led the team with 22 digs. Cooper Lundal led the team with 14 kills, but Moser (11) and Austin Scott (10) were not far behind. 
 
North Central is on the road next weekend for the Yellow Jacket Men's Volleyball Invitation (Feb. 15-18) in Berea, Ohio. The Cardinal's first match is at 8 pm (EST) Thursday, February 15, against No.18 Baldwin Wallace University.
